About the Author

Martin Sinzig was born 1963 in Samedan, a small town in the Engadin region of southeastern Switzerland. This son of a bricklayer/magazine worker and a dressmaker/children's nurse spent his school years in Feldmeilen on the lake of Zurich and in Berg, close to Lake Constance. After completing his business baccalaureate and part-time studies at the HSG University in St. Gallen, Martin became a freelance journalist.

In 1987, he began working independently in local and regional journalism. Starting in 1991, Martin worked as a Federal Parliament correspondent, and from 1999 to 2021 as a business journalist. He then focused on industry, technology and automotive history as a freelance author and communications specialist.

Martin enjoys his breaks from office and writing work by doing maintenance and restoration projects on Chevrolet classic vehicles. For this reason, the author and Chevy enthusiast refers to his home — his parents' former dairy farm — as the Chevy Ranch.

An Enduring Fascination

At the end of the 1960s, a ride in an Oldsmobile road cruiser makes a lasting impression. Martin was just six years old and the 130 mph the car reached was etched in his memory. His fascination with fast American cars would never diminish.

In the 1990s, Martin began to expand his knowledge of Louis Chevrolet and his complex role in American automotive history. A classic car restoration project (1964 Chevelle Malibu SS) inspired the freelance journalist to write a comprehensive biography of the man, who gave his name to a car company that would become a globally iconic brand.

In 2007 Martin started traveling to places where Louis Chevrolet had lived and worked, researching archives and visiting with descendants of the Swiss emigrant. A German-language version of Martin’s first Louis Chevrolet biography was published just in time for the 100th anniversary of the Chevrolet car company, in 2011. Martin has continued his research and shares more fascinating Chevrolet history in his forthcoming expanded telling of a legend’s life story.
